Job Description

BI/DW Developer, Perm InsuranceBI/DW Developer working for a leading Global Insurer. They want someone to join their Actuarial & Analytics Department and report into the Head of MI & Reporting.Responsibilities:
  • A data engineer who understands solution architecture and has strong SQL Server 2016 development skills including TSQL and SSIS.
  • This role requires the understanding of the principles of good data warehouse practice and the ability to maintain and enhance existing data warehouses and data structures
  • Good visualisation skills are required to present the data in a variety of formats including Excel, SSIS and Power BI.
  • Data quality and data cleansing disciplines are required to bring cohesion to the disparate nature of the source systems. Building efficient and scalable systems is needed
  • Service the growing demand for high quality data, experienced data engineers are needed to interpret and implement user requirements from various departments
  • Understand change management and release management principles when delivering data solutions to production.
  • Key Skills:Essential:
  • Expert knowledge of SQL Server 2016, SSIS, TSQL and ETL
  • Experience of implementing systems to import and manipulate complex data structures both relational and nonrelational (in particular Excel and XML data sources)
  • Experience of master data and data quality principles e.g. using Data Quality Services (DQS) and Master Data Services (MDS)
  • Experience of applying software development principles, including environment management and version control (ideally in SVN)
  • Highly Desirable:
  • Experience implementing reports in Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI
  • Experience of Change Management and DevOps concepts (good knowledge essential)
  • Good knowledge of at least one other common RDBMS implementation (Oracle, Postgres, etc.)
  • Ability to create design patterns (e.g. in BIML and Dynamic SQL) to automate the development process
  • Scripting skills e.g. VBA (use with Excel) and Power Shell
  • Experience supporting data scientists and analysts.
  • Desirable:
  • Working with Microsoft Azure or AWS (S3, AWS Glue, Redshift, Quicksight)
  • Net application development especially C#
  • Experience with using NoSQL databases and unstructured systems
  • Working knowledge of R and RStudio product offerings.
  • Use of Python
